MANILA, Philippines – Ceres-La Salle twice took a lead but gave up equalizers to North Korean club Rimyongsu to settle for a 2-2 draw in their first match of the AFC Presidents Cup Tuesday evening at the Panood Stadium in Bacolod.
Juani Guirado broke the ice when he found the back of the net after 10 minutes, but Ri Kwang-hyok equalized for Rimyongsu six minutes before halftime.
The AFC website said that Ri was the first player to score for a North Korea club in the AFC Presidents Cup.
Ceres took the lead again four minutes into the second half after a Patrick Reichelt goal, but Ri came to the rescue of Rimyongsu again when he evened the match at the 60 minute mark.
“This is a special night for us, getting a 2-2 draw against the strongest team in North Korea,” Ceres manager Ali Go said, as quoted by The Philippine Star. “It could have been better, but we cannot ask for more.”
“At least, we got a point from this match,” he added.
