Rain or Shine escaped with a 118-116 overtime win over Talk ‘N Text Wednesday night in the 2008-09 Motolite-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Jai Lewis pulled off the win for the Eslato Painters by following up a missed drive by Solomon Mercado in the dying seconds of the game.
The victory improved Rain or Shine’s mark to 7-5, boosting the Elasto Painter’s chances for a possible quarterfinal seat.
“I hope we can continue the momentum in our last two games because because we still have the chance for a spot in the top four,” said Rain or Shine mentor Caloy Garcia.
Lewis finished with game-highs 31 points and 14 rebounds while Gabe Norwood also registered a double-double performance with 21 and 11.
It was the Tropang Texters’ third straight defeat to go down in the lower half of the team standings with a 5-6 slate.
In the second game, Coca-Cola posted an 88-79 victory over the undermanned Sta. Lucia Realty.
The Tigers improved their record to 4-6 while handing the Realtors their second straight defeat with 6-5.
Sta. Lucia played minus key players Kelly Williams, Bitoy Omolon and Ryan Reyes due to injuries.
Asi Taulava led Coke with 24 points to go with 20 rebounds while James Penny added 21. Anthony Johnson led Sta. Lucia with 24 points.
