MANILA, Philippines -- San Miguel Beer's Jay Washington was named as Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Player of the Week for his role in the Beermen's twin victories over Rain or Shine and B-Meg Derby Ace last week.
According to PBA.ph, Washington, who earned praise from coach Siot Tanquingcen for his "Danny Seigle-like moves", made 23 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks in their 105-97 win over victory over Rain or Shine on Friday.
He also registered 25 markers and grabbed rebounds in his squad’s 80-72 triumph over Derby Ace on Sunday.
“His skill level is very high and he has this uncanny understanding of the game. If you play him small he’ll post you up. If you play him big he’ll kill you in the perimeter. Parang Seigle talaga,” Tanquingcen said in a PBA.ph report.
“His talent is really something. He can beat you from the inside and the outside and that’s just incredible,” the SMB coach noted.
The 28-year-old Washington thus earned the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of April 30 to May 2.
Moreover, Tanquingcen also praised the 6-foot-7 forward for his selflessness on the court.
“Kung minsan, sobrang unselfish. Kaya nga at times ako na mismo ang nagsasabing, ‘Take charge ka na,’” he said.
San Miguel Beer's twin wins last week has enabled it to maintain solo leadership in the PBA Fiesta Conference standings with 7 wins and 1 loss. -- With a report from PBA.ph
