MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero was stripped of his IBF junior flyweight belt after failing to make the 108-pound limit for his title fight against Colombia’s Mauricio Fuentes in Cebu on Saturday.
According to Rene Bonsubre’s report to Philboxing, Casimero tipped the scales at 113.25 pounds and chose not to go down further in weight.
If Casimero beats Fuentes, the title will remain vacant. The Mexican, on the other hand, will take home the crown if he defeats the Ormoc City-born fighter.
The bout, which will take place at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, Cebu City, was supposed to be Casimero’s fourth title defense since winning the interim crown from Luis Lazarte of Argentina in 2012.
He stopped Felipe Salguero in 11 rounds during his most recent fight last October.
