MANILA, Philippines – An athletes’ partylist group is pushing for the investigation of the boxing event that led to the death of an amateur boxer in Zambales.

Pwersa ng Bayani Atleta (PBA) Party Rep. Mark Zambar wants a probe on the death of Romnick Dablo, an 18-year-old amateur boxer.

Dablo lost after three rounds of his bout against an experienced opponent last week in Iba. He threw up and fainted following the match and was rushed to a hospital.

He then fell into a coma and died after three days.

Relatives blamed Dablo’s death to a fight mismatch.

Dablo’s father, Roberto, claimed that his son’s opponent was bigger and more experienced than his son, who has only been boxing for a year with four amateur fights in his record.

The incident took place just months after the death of another boxer, Karlo Maquinto, who collapsed shortly after his bout against Mark Joseph Costa in Caloocan last January 28.

He fell into a coma after the bout and died five days later. -- With a report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
