MANILA, Philippines – It is possible that a future fight card headlined by undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will feature his best friend, rapper 50 Cent, in the undercard.
In an interview with RingTV, Mayweather revealed that 50 Cent has been getting involved with Mayweather Promotions and may be featured on a fight card in the future.
"Well, 50 is getting involved in boxing as far as getting involved with fighters, because he boxed at one particular time in South Side Jamaica, Queens. I had a chance of actually going to his neighborhood, and he was a rough, rough kid, tough," Mayweather said.
"I think he's going to be involved on the promotion side. We may even put him there, let him fight on pay-per-view one time. So we don't really know what the future holds, but he is getting involved with boxing," he added.
The rapper will be accompanying Mayweather when he walks into the ring for his May 5 junior middleweight clash against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.
"We're a team – he's part of Mayweather Promotions. Come May 5th he will be performing, he will walk me to the ring, he's performing," Mayweather said.
50 Cent has been an integral part of Mayweather’s team, even appearing on HBO’s reality series, "24/7," where the rapper is usually shown hanging out at the Mayweather Boxing Club.
"He's not just my friend, he's not just my best friend, he's also one of my business partners, and very, very, very smart. One of the smartest guys I know," Mayweather said.
