Banares upsets Corteza in Star 10-Ball Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Former WPA World junior silver medalist Jericho Banares of Antipolo upset Lee Vann “The Slayer” Corteza, 11-7, to rule the recently concluded 2012 Star Billiards 10-Ball Cup  at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.

Banares won the P100,000 champion’s purse, while Corteza settled for the runner’s-up check of P40,000 in the tournament staged by longtime billiards patron Sebastian “Baste” Chua and sportsman Danny Chong.

Dennis Orcollo and former world champion Ronato Alcano came in third and fourth, respectively. They both took home P20,000.

At fifth to eighth places were: Jeffrey de Luna, Jundel Mazon, Leonardo Didal and Jeck Limen. The four players got P8,000 each.

Rounding up the top 16 were: Antonio Lining, Rodrigo Geronimo, Mika Immonen of Finland, Allan Cuartero, John Rebong, Godofredo Ducanes, Mario Tolentino and Oliver Villafuerte. By Marlon Bernardino
