Pinoy Beach Games: 'Patintero', anyone?

The much-awaited “Pinoy Beach Games” went full blast in world famous Boracay where it showcased popular indoor and outdoor water sports including traditional native Pinoy games.

A report by said athletes 14 years old and below are participating in the four-day competition from April 30 to May 3.

“The Pinoy Beach Games bring about fresh and new opportunities for sports in the country. But it will not only promote sports but also tourism and environmental awareness and management,” said Malay municipal councilor Wilbec M. Gelito.

Tournament co-chairman for operation Levy B. Gaac said their concept for the games is to revive interest in popular games played by Filipino youth.

“The main concept is to bring to the beach the games close to the hearts of the Filipino kids, with some colorful twists to depict the festive atmosphere of the venues. It will also capitalize on domestic tourism,” said Gaac.

Among the competitions being held are frisbee, beach volleyball, beach football, beach sepak takraw, beach athletics, shoreline swimming, fun run and chess. The tournament will also feature the traditional Pinoy game of beach patintero.
