MANILA, Philippines – Talk ‘N Text made it two in a row versus a shorthanded Rain or Shine for a 2-0 series lead in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.
The Tropang Texters are now just a win away from the Finals after completing a 94-87 win in Game Two of their best-of-five semis duel against the Elasto Painters.
Ranidel de Ocampo scored 20 points for the Texters, who engaged the Elasto Painters in an all-Filipino battle in the fourth.
Already without injured players JR Quinahan and Jervy Cruz, Rain or Shine suffered a huge blow when import Wayne Chism went down with what appeared to be a knee sprain in the second quarter.
But the Texters also suffered a hit following Richard Howell’s exit in the payoff period due to foul trouble.
This forced De Ocampo to carry the fight for Talk ‘N Text, which also got plenty of scoring help from Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams.
Castro scored 19, while Williams finished with 14 points. Howell, who played for 25 minutes, only had 12.
Without Chism, Rain or Shine was forced to lean on bigman Baeu Belga who had 16 points and Ryan Arana (14 points).
Talk ‘N Text, which won Game One 91-85 on Monday, trailed by 65-69 early in the fourth quarter. De Ocampo then scored 5 straight points to push the Texters to 70-69 advantage.
Jimmy Alapag and Williams kept the Texters ahead, 91-85, in the final minute. Rain or Shine resorted to fouls to buy some time, but could not get closer than 7 points.
