MANILA, Philippines – Former Chicago Bulls player Luc Longley recently visited the Philippines as a special guest of the Jr. NBA basketball camps, as well as to help promote the ongoing NBA playoffs and launch the special NBA.com Philippines website.
Longley played with NBA legends Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in the Bulls’ champion teams in the 1990s.
“It’s really great to be here. I heard the Filipinos are some of the most passionate fans in the world, and what better place to spread the love of basketball than in the Philippines,” Longley said.
Longley attended some of the Jr. NBA camps, which will send 10 of the best high school players in the Philippines to the United States as part of the Jr. NBA All-Star team.
These players will get to watch NBA playoff games and play with the Jr. NBA All-Stars from other players.
Longley also attended the launch of the NBA.com Philippines website (http://ph.nba.com), a special NBA website dedicated to Filipinos.
NBA.com PH will feature content from Filipino sports writers as well as information on local NBA promos and upcoming events.
“Number 3 sa buong mundo ang Philippines na visitors sa NBA.com,” said NBA Philippines country manager Carlo Singson. “So dapat lang na may ganito tayo na website para sa kanila with local content and local promotions as well.”
“There is more to come as this is just a preview,” Singson added.
The website features a special message from NBA Commissioner David Stern, who also thanked the Filipino fans for supporting the league. – Report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
NBA Playoff games will be shown on Studio 23 and ABS-CBN Channel 2 during Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
