MANILA, Philippines -- The country's top colleges and universities clash again for sports supremacy, this time in the game of "ultimate frisbee."
The National Ultimate Collegiate Championship (NUCC) will be held this weekend at the Circulo Verde open field in Quezon City.
“We decided to come up with an event that will help players and enthusiasts to play the game,” said Melissa Tan of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Ultimate Organization.
Eleven teams participated in last year’s edition of the NUCC.
This year, 12 university and college teams will be vying for the title, namely:
- University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman,
- UP Los Baños,
- Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU),
- De La Salle University (DLSU) Taft,
- DLSU Damariñas,
- DLSU Canlubang,
- College of St. Benilde,
- University of Sto. Tomas (UST),
- Far Eastern University (FEU),
- University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P),
- San Beda College,
- Centro Escolar University (CEU).
The tournament, which runs from April 28 to 29, will have a round-robin format.
“We will have three fields in Circulo Verde, so the games will be happening simultaneously. On Saturday the games will begin on 8 am and will run until 5 pm. On Sunday, we’ll have the quarters, semis and finals,” said Lara Espineda, also of UP Ultimate Organization. – With a report from ANC
