MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes will make the first defense of his title against Mexican boxer Felipe Salguero this June.
According to Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz, Nietes’ title defense will be part of a "Pinoy Pride" card that will be held on June 2 at the Resorts World Hotel & Casino.
Nietes, who has a record of 29 wins, 1 loss and 3 draws, won the WBO light flyweight belt with a unanimous decision victory over Ramon Garcia Hirales last March 2011.
It was his second title in as many weight classes, after holding the WBO's minimum-weight championship from September 2007 to March 2011.
His challenger, Salguero, holds a record of 16 wins with two losses and one draw, with 11 wins coming by way of knockout.
According to Nathanielsz, Salguero lost his first two boxing matches as a professional but has since reeled off 16 straight victories, including a 5th round knockout victory over veteran boxer Carlos Melo last January in Mexico.
