PBA chief summons Hodge, Yeng Guiao
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Chito Salud has summoned both Meralco player Cliff Hodge and Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao to his office to explain their actions near the end of their game last Wednesday.
Hodge hammered Rain or Shine’s Raymond Almazan with a closed fist to the face in the dying seconds of the highly physical quarterfinals match.
This triggered a violent reaction from the mercurial Elasto Painters coach who confronted Hodge, even calling the Meralco player a “mongoloid.”
“In my mind, it’s easily reviewable for a possible flagrant foul and that’s why Hodge is also being summoned for a possible upgrade,” said Salud in the league’s official website.
The PBA chieftain said that Guiao will also have to explain his side for resorting to name-calling.
“Name-calling and the use of insulting language will have consequences, and that’s the reason why I’ve invited coach Yeng over tomorrow,” said the PBA executive.
Elasto Painters defeated the Bolts in that game, 102-93, forcing a rubber match in their quarterfinals series.
Guiao said Hodge crossed a line when he hit Almazan in the face during a battle for a rebound in the final seconds.
“Okay lang naman sa amin ang physicality, because that’s our game,” Guiao said. “But what Hodge did has no place in this league.”
