MANILA, Philippines – Fighting congressman Manny Pacquiao’s dreams of making it into the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) hit a snag after the league ruled out direct hires for expansion teams.

This means, Pacquiao will have to go through the drafting process if he wants to play for expansion team KIA Motors.

“He will be a welcome addition to the PBA,” PBA commissioner Chito Salud said in Karlo Sacamos' report in “But you will have to enter the rookie draft — you have to go through the process.”

The WBO welterweight champion earlier said that there were plans to have him fielded as one of the players of KIA Motors, which is one of the new teams accepted by the PBA.

"Hindi pa naman final, pero may planong maglaro ako sa PBA," said Pacquiao, who is known to be a basketball fanatic.

The two other expansion teams are Blackwater Sports and Metro Pacific Investments (NLEX).

If Pacquiao makes it to the pro basketball league, he will be the first professional boxer ever to play in the PBA.

But the PBA ruled on Thursday against direct hires to NLEX, Blackwater and KIA.
