MANILA, Philippines -- Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao reported that training has been going well for Eduard Folayang who will have his toughest fight to date against former lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku.

He said Folayang has been doing strength and conditioning exercises in the morning and skills training in the afternoon. This is aside from his sparring sessions twice a week.

“Maganda ang naging training ni Eduard. Last week na ito ng hard training niya,” Sangiao, a former member of the national wushu team, told “Next week, weight cut na lang.”

Folayang will tangle with Boku at the co-main event of ONE FC: Rise of Heroes, which will be headlined by the bantamweight title battle between Brazil's Bibiano Fernandes and Japan's Masakatsu Ueda.

The card will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena on May 2.

In his most recent outing, Folayang brandished his improved ground skills as he dominated Vincent Latoel en route to a unanimous decision.

A dominant victory against the experienced Boku could set up Folayang for a title shot against reigning ONE FC lightweight champion Shinya Aoki.

To beat Boku, Sangiao said Folayang will have to address his opponent’s striking skills.

“Si Boku ang mabilis sa kanya ‘yung kamay at ‘yung footwork, kaya kelangan ni Eduard ng depensa,” he said.

But when it comes to size and strength, Sangiao said Folayang has the upper hand.

“Sa tingin ko mas malaki o malapad si Eduard at mas malakas.”
