Former world champion Marvin Sonsona has a tough assignment ahead as he is scheduled to meet his tormentor Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. in a rematch in June.
Sonsona will fight Vazquez on the undercard of the WBC middleweight title fight between Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez and Miguel Cotto on June 7.
Vazquez has already fought Sonsona back in 2010, stopping “The Marvelous” in four rounds.
But Vazquez vowed not to underestimate the Filipino pug, citing that Sonsona has good boxing skills.
“The first fight wasn't easy. I knocked him out but he is a good boxer. I was very dedicated, very motivated in that fight. I am working hard and I want to win again and do it for my new promoter and my fans,” the Puerto Rican, who recently signed up with Cotto’s promotional outfit, said in Ronnie Nathanieslz’s report to Philboxing.
Sonsona began his comeback trail with a sensational knockout victory over Akifumi Shimoda of Japan last February.
Sonsona, the former WBO super flyweight king, tagged Shimoda with a left uppercut, putting an end to the 12-rounder, 1:17 minutes in the third round.
