Meralco's Dawson leads race for best import

MANILA – High scoring Meralco import Eric Dawson is leading the race for the inaugural Bobby Parks trophy at the end of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup eliminations phase.

Dawson, a former NBA player of the San Antonio Spurs, is at the top of the import list with an accumulated 707 statistical points (SPs), according to the PBA website.

The 6’8” former San Antonio Spurs enjoys over a 100-point lead over second-ranked Michael Dunigan of Air21.

Dawson normed 30.8 points, 15.4 rebounds, 3.1 steals, 2.2 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.

He’s had two 50-point performances, including the nine-year league-high of 57 points in Meralco’s 102-92 shellacking of Petron Blaze on April 5.

Dozier, who is still in the best import race, tallied 21.7 points, 16.2 rebounds (tournament best), 2.3 assists, 2.7 blocks and 0.8 steal per game. He registered an average 48 statistical points.

Current Best Import Denzel Bowles came in at fifth behind Dawson, Dozier, Vernon Macklin (47.5) and Dunigan (46.8).

Bowles had 45.83 SPs per game.

Dawson and Bowles will collide when Meralco and defending champion San Mig Coffee meet again in Game 2 of their best-of-three quarters duel.

Hobbled by an injured knee, Dawson still posted 25 points and 18 rebounds as Meralco topped San Mig Coffee in Game 1.
