MANILA, Philippines – Siot Tanquingcen has been chosen as the new head coach of the Barako Bull Energy Cola, replacing Bong Ramos, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) tem announced on Monday.

“Yes, we have already informed the team of our new head coach,” Barako Bull team manager Raffy Casyao told PBA.ph. “We’ve decided to bring along a new voice who will lead the team’s charge.” [http://pba.inquirer.net/44336/barako-bull-taps-tanquingcen-to-turn-fortunes-around]

Tanquingcen had served as Barako’s team consultant after his contract with San Miguel Beer expired last December.

“It has been a very tough decision for us to alter the direction of our team midway through the season, but we also fervently hope that change is necessary if we really intend to reach our goals,” said Casyao.

“Our team has been known as a dark horse squad for quite some time now, and with Coach Siot in tow, we’re hoping to return to our tag as contender again,” he added.

Casyao had only kind words to say about Ramos, who steered the Energy to a 2-7 record in the Commissioner’s Cup after reaching the quarter-finals in the previous conference.

“He was professional enough to give way to the new direction of the team,” Casyao said of Ramos.
