MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine guard Paul Lee has been named the PBA Player of the Week after helping the Elasto Painters wrap up their PBA Commissioners Cup elimination round campaign on a bright note.

The 2012 Rookie of the Year beat out San Miguel’s Arwind Santos and Meralco’s Jared Dillinger for the weekly citation.

Lee scored 12 points – including key baskets in crunch time – to help Rain or Shine survive against Air21, 87-82, on April 14. He came up big anew in Rain or Shine’s Easter Sunday showdown against Ginebra, teaming up with import Wayne Chism to turn back the Kings, 105-101, in overtime.

The Elasto Painters’ victory against the Gin Kings helped them clinch the fourth spot in the league standings, putting them in a best-of-three quarter-finals series against Meralco instead of a do-or-die game against second-seeded San Miguel Beer.

Lee told that they approached the last two games against Air21 and Ginebra on a serious note, as a loss will have serious implications on their playoff hopes.

“Sanay na, bago dumating itong laro na ito (against Ginebra), sinabi ni Coach Yeng (Guiao) na kung manalo tayo sa Sunday, may laro agad ng Monday and we need to practice sa morning,” said Lee.

Lee scored 15 points in Game 1 of their best-of-three quarter-finals series, but the well-rested Meralco Bolts won the game, 94-91.
