MANILA, Philippines – Ola Adeogun and Baser Amer starred in a mighty San Beda comeback to beat the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 63-61, last Saturday in the FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.

The Red Lions were down by 13-points at halftime and by nine points entering the fourth quarter, but Adeogun and Amer led the way for a come-from-behind victory over the reigning UAAP champions.

"I think it was all about the big fighting heart of the boys," said San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc. "In the first half, we were totally out of it but the boys responded."

Adeogun had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Amer added 14 points for the Red Lions but it was their fourth-quarter heroics that made the most impact.

Ateneo appeared to be in total command after posting a 36-23 lead in the first half. The Blue Eagles were still ahead, 48-39, at the end of the third quarter but San Beda rallied with a 7-0 run, with Adeogun accounting for six of the points.

Amer kept the Red Lions in the game with eight consecutive points on fast break plays.

The Blue Eagles were still ahead by three points, 57-54, at the two-minute mark but that was sliced to one point after Adeogun grabbed an offensive rebound and scored.

San Beda stole the ball on the next possession, leading to a Julius Armon jumper that allowed the Red Lions to take the lead, 58-56, with 1:40 in the game.

After Adeogun split his free throw for San Beda, Juami Tiongson tied the game with a jumper at the 1:02 mark.

Amer grabbed the lead for San Beda after converting on two free throws with 56.1 seconds after a foul by Kiefer Ravena with Ateneo in the penalty. He made two more free throws after Ateneo failed to score on its next play, increasing the Lions lead to four points with less than 20 seconds left.

The win was San Beda’s third of the tournament, while the Blue Eagles dropped to a 2-1 record.
