MANILA – The SM Group on Monday vowed to support Filipino figure skater Michael Martinez in his bid to compete in the 2018 Olympics.
Martinez is back in the country after winning the gold medal at the Triglav Trophy International Figure Skating tournament in Slovenia.
The 17-year-old figure skater hopes to return to the United States to continue his training. However, Martinez said he needs more funds to do so.
He said the cost of training in the US is too expensive for his family. Because of this, he fears his young career might end soon.
However, the SM group said it is committed to support Martinez in his bid to get into the 2018 Olympics.
"The SM Group is committed to supporting Michael in his bid to get into the 2018 Olympics. This is why SM is in discussions with Michael and other groups," Ed Tejerero, President of SM Leisure and Entertainment Inc., said in a statement.
