MANILA, Philippines -- The Alaska Aces ripped open a close battle with a decisive 14-to-nothing run midway through the fourth quarter and went on to carve out an 86-77 win over San Mig Coffee in the opener of their own best-of-three duel on Monday night.

The two teams had figured in 10 deadlocks and 20 lead changes before the Aces came through with the lethal fourth-quarter attack that sent them to the doorstep of the Final Four.

The titleholders have a chance close out the series in Game Two tomorrow or, if necessary, in Game Three Saturday.
