MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang congratulated the Philippine Volcanoes for its historic HSBC Asian 5 Nations Division 1 title victory over Sri Lanka on Saturday.

The Palace heaped praises to the Volcanoes who rapped Sri Lanka, 28-18, and barged into the HSBC Asian 5 Nations Top 5.

“The entire Filipino nation congratulates our Philippine Volcanoes for their victory over Sri Lanka at the Asian 5 Nations Rugby, 28-18,” said Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda in a statement.

“Once again we have shown that the grit, determination, and resilience at the core of our every effort can surmount any challenge. Truly, the Filipino's heart can never be underestimated,” he added.

The Asian 5 Nation Top 5 qualification is an unprecedented feat for the Filipino national rugby team.

The Volcanoes started turning heads in international rugby scene by finishing second to Japan in the Asian Men’s Rugby 7s Championship in September last year.

The Volcanoes erupted again in the Asian 5 Nations by earning successive wins over Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Sri Lanka.
