MANILA, Philippines – B-Meg Derby Ace coach Tim Cone is confident that his team has already learned from mistakes committed during the Philippine Cup.
Cone said their disappointing finish in the last conference motivated them to reach the finals of the Commissioner’s Cup.
“We talked a lot about the growth we’d got from that Powerade thing. It bitterly disappointed us and we learned how not to take anything for granted,” he said in PBA.ph.
Cone was referring to their semifinals collapse against the Powerade Tigers in the Philippine Cup.
He said the experience helped B-Meg become a better team.
“You hate it when it’s happening to you but it motivated us. It helped us grow,” Cone said.
The Llamados eliminated the Ginebra Gin Kings in a best-of-5 showdown to nab the first finals berth.
Now that they have conquered their demons, Cone is looking to move forward against fellow finalist Talk N’ Text.
The Texters are the defending champions of the tournament and Cone will need every inch of his coaching experience to steer his team past the Chot Reyes-mentored Talk N’ Text.
“It’s good to be back in the championship. We’re growing as a team and, obviously, we want to win the championship,” said Cone.
