MANILA -- Eduard Folayang still has the goods to prove himself against Martin Nguyen, according to the ONE Championship CEO himself.
ONE Championship founder Chatri Sityodtong said Tuesday he won't be surprised to see Folayang facing Nguyen again in the near future, this time as a challenger.
Folayang lost his ONE lightweight crown when Nguyen sprang with his patented overhand right to knockout "The Landslide" in November last year.
The win allowed Nguyen to hold the featherweight and lightweight titles at the same time.
"I think a rematch between Eduard Folayang and Martin Nguyen is going to happen down the road," said Sityodtong at the sidelines of the ONE: Heroes of Honor presser.
Folayang has a score to settle with the Australian fighter and this makes for a good storyline, noted the ONE executive.
"They have an unfinished business. Martin akcnowledges that Eduard is a phenomenal fighter and he wants to prove that that knockout punch wasn't a lucky one. And Eduard wants to prove that was a lucky punch," he said.
Folayang has an upcoming assignment against Russia's Kharun Atlangeriev, who is set to make his debut in ONE Championship on May 18 in Singapore.
"But you'll never know. Eduard has a huge fight coming up against a undefeated Russian champion, let's see how good he is," said Sityodtong.
"I think the best of Eduard has yet to come. We're going to see amazing things from Eduard."
