MANILA, Philippines -- Former two-time PBA Best Import Gabe Freeman is now in the country to save Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s bid for the Commissioner’s Cup.

According to the league’s official website, the 6-foot-5 import arrived early Wednesday morning and has already joined the Gin Kings’ practice for the day.

Freeman then submitted his immigration papers to the Games and Amusement Board to become eligible to play in Ginebra’s game against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Sunday.

Freeman took over the slot left by Josh Powell, who was called up by the NBA’s Houston Rockets.

Ginebra is already assured of a quarterfinals seat but is trying to avoid finishing the eliminations near the tail end of the standings.

If the Kings end up on either seventh or eighth, they will be at a twice-to-beat disadvantage in the first round of the playoffs.
