MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals are set for a friendly match against Hong Kong as they begin their preparations for the main draw of the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives next year.
Hong Kong, rated 150th in the world, will play against the Azkals on June 4, according to ASEAN Football.
Team manager Dan Palami said the Filipinos will test themselves against Hong Kong, who posted a superb run in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
Palami added that they are currently looking for another team willing to play against the Philippine squad as part of their run-up to the 2014 Challenge Cup.
The Azkals are supposed to play Vietnam, but negotiations fell through.
“It will be some other team and the PFF (Philippine Football Federation) is looking at that already,” said Palami.
The Philippines recently earned a qualification to the Challenge Cup main draw by defeating Cambodia and Turkmenistan in Group E.
The 143rd ranked Azkals are hoping to win the main draw to barge into the 2015 Asian Cup.
