MANILA, Philippines – Filipino cue artist Alex Pagulayan clustered two straight racks to edge Liu Hai Tao of China, 9-6, in the latest installment of the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face Off Series late Saturday at the Pagcor Airport Casino in Parañaque City.
The win was worth $5,000 for Pagulayan, while Liu settled for the runner-up’s $2,500 prize.
“The ball rolled in my favor in the end of the game,” Pagulayan said.
Pagulayan raced to a lead of 6-3 before Liu closed in at 6-7. But the Filipino player won the next two racks to take the victory.
With Pagulayan’s victory, Team Philippines tied the PBB Face Off series at 4-all with Team Asia.
Taiwanese cue artist Chang Yu Long defeated Filipino Ronato Alcano, 9-7, last March 31 to put Team Asia ahead, 4-3.
The PBB Face Off series will resume with a match pitting Liu against Dennis Orcollo on April 21 and Fong Pang Chao of Chinese-Taipe against Lee Vann Corteza on April 28. By Marlon Bernardino
