‘The Hurricane’ to see action in front of fellow Pinoys on May 2
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American boxer Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton will be making her mixed martial arts (MMA) debut in front of fellow Filipinos when she takes on a formidable foe at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena next month.
The former WBO and IBF super bantamweight women’s champion will test herself against Egyptian kickboxing specialist Aya Saeid Saber in ONE FC: Rise of Heroes on May 2.
It will be Julaton's first fight in the Philippines.
Julaton was actually a martial artist first before turning into a boxer in 2005. She currently holds a blackbelt in taekwondo and Bok Fu, a martial arts system that incorporates Kenpo and Kung Fu.
The Filipino-American said she expects a tough fight from Saber, who will also make her MMA debut in ONE FC.
"Aya Saber is an experienced MMA warrior and champion in kickboxing. I know she will bring her very best on May 2nd,” she said.
Julaton added that she is highly motivated to please the local fight fans.
“I'm training for my ONE FC homecoming fight in Manila harder than ever before and what gives me strength through my ups and downs are the hearts of my kababayan all over,” said the 33-year-old.
ONE FC: Rise of Heroes will feature the bantamweight title bout between defending champion Bibiano Fernandes and Masakatsu Ueda.
Also fighting for Pinoy pride are Eduard Folayang, Eugene Toquero and Filipina Jujeath Nagaowa.
Folayang will have a tough assignment against former lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku, while Toquero will test the mettle of unbeaten Malaysian Gianni Subba.
Nagaowa, for her part, will face Indian fighter Jeet Toshi.
