MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta will return to action on April 11 against Mexican fighter Edgar “Basuras” Riovalle in Del Mar, California.
Gesta will be fighting for the first time since losing to Miguel Vazquez in December 2012, his first-ever career defeat.
“I am happy that there has been an opponent announced for my fight,” Gesta said in a statement. “I’m really looking to put on an exciting show for all my fans.”
“My goal is to get back in the world title mix, and it starts with Riovalle. I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s coming to win,” he added.
“He has a lot of experience, with over 50 fights to his credit, so I know he has some tricks up his sleeve. I’ll be ready for anything he comes with.”
The eight-round fight will be the main event of the “Ringside at Del Mar” card, which will also feature a light heavyweight bout between Manuel “Venado” Ceballos and Payton Boyea.
Gesta was originally scheduled to return in July 2013, against Nigerian Ajose Olusegun, only for the fight to be dropped when Gesta suffered an injury.
The Filipino has a record of 26 wins, with one loss and one draw. Fourteen of his wins have come by knockout.
Meanwhile, Riovalle has a record of 37-17-2, with 26 knockout victories.
