MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines has virtually won its Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group II tie against Pakistan after taking a 3-0 lead on Black Saturday.
Partners Ruben Gonzales and Treat Huey vanquished the Pakistani tandem of Aqeel Khan and Jalil Khan, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, in their doubles encounter at the PCA courts in Paco, Manila.
Johnny Arcilla drew first blood for the Philippines by carving out a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 win over Aqeel on Good Friday.
Huey upped the lead to 2-0 by overpowering Yasir Khan 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 in the other singles also on Friday.
On Easter Sunday, Huey will meet Aqeel, and Arcilla will battle Yasir in a pair of non-bearing singles games to formalize the Philippines' victory over Pakistan.
