Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva claims he is only a few months away from being ready to fight this year, just over three months after the Brazilian superstar suffered a gruesome leg injury.

Silva has been recovering from a broken left leg that he suffered last December against Chris Weidman at UFC 168, a bout that saw the “Spider” fail to regain his UFC middleweight title.

Speaking to UFC Fight Pass, Silva revealed that he has been recovering well, both physically and mentally.

“I would be ready to fight this year,” Silva said, as quoted by Bloody Elbow. “Another couple of months, and I would be ready to fight again.”

“But I’m having this opportunity to spend more time with my family, to focus and work on my personal projects. I’m making the most of this moment to look after my personal things and be with my family,” he added.

Silva admits he was initially worried to resume kicking after suffering the injury, but managed to convince himself.

“I thought to myself, ‘I have been doing this since I was a kid. Let’s kick!’ Let’s do what needs to be done,” he said.

Another key to his recovery has been “happiness,” said the Brazilian.

“Regardless if you are injured or not, you gotta have happiness to recover,” he said. “You must have the will to carry on and never give up.”

Silva’s loss to Weidman last December was his second straight defeat. He also lost to the American fighter in July 2013, getting knocked out in the second round and dropping his middleweight belt. It was his first loss since 2006.
