MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated Milan Melindo kept his win streak going with an impressive performance in Macau's "Fist of Gold" fight card that features Brian Viloria's WBA/WBO flyweight title defense versus Juan Francisco Estrada.
The crafty Melindo stopped Indonesian fighter Tommy Seran with a compact left hook to the chin in the fourth round at the Cotai Arena of The Venetian Hotel.
Melindo, whose moniker is “El Metodico” or “The Methodical”, first decked Seran with a left in the opening round.
After going down again in the second, the Indonesian struggled to gain control of the bout as the Filipino flicked him with consistent jabs in round 3.
In round 4, Melindo set up the unsuspecting Seran by unloading body shots before throwing a vicious left hook that connected perfectly on the Indonesian’s chin.
The shot sent Seran down the canvas for the third time.
Badly dazed, the Indonesian struggled to stand up, forcing the referee to award the victory to Melindo.
The Filipino improved his record to 29 wins, while Seran absorbed his second defeat in 19 fights.
Melindo, WBO’s No. 1 flyweight contender, is hoping to face WBO/WBA champion Viloria in the future.
The Fist of Gold main header will be Zou Shiming’s pro debut against Eleazar Valenzuela.
"Fist of Gold" will be aired locally on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday, starting at 9:55 a.m.
