MANILA, Philippines -- Pakistan kept its Davis Cup hopes alive when it defeated the Philippines in the doubles match on Saturday.
The Philippines entered the Asia Oceania Zone Group II tie doubles match with a 2-0 lead over Pakistan but the Filipino duo of Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales bowed to their Pakistani counterparts Aqeel Khan and Aisam Qureshi.
Khan and Qureshi had it 5-7, 3-6 and 2-6 against the Philippines to cut the Filipinos’ lead to 2-1.
The Philippines was supposed to close the contest on Saturday after PJ Tierro and Gonzales survived Khan and Samir Ifthikar in their respective singles matches on Friday.
The Philippines and Pakistan will try to settle the scores on Sunday, when Gonzales faces Khan and Tierro battles Iftikhar in separate singles games.
