Guevarra takes MVP award in Legends Game

MANILA, Philippines – The Team Greats and the Team Stalwarts battled to a 136-all deadlock on Friday’s PBA Legends Game, which served as the appetizer for the PBA All-Star Game this Sunday.

Meralco’s Rey Guevarra put on a great show by scoring 34 points for the Atoy Co-coached Team Greats. He was eventually named as the game’s Most Valuable Player, his second award for the night after becoming co-champion in the slam Dunk competition.

According to the PBA website, Team Greats dominated most of the second half, but the Team Stalwarts was able to claw back after Macmac Cardona, Ronjay Buenafe and Justin Melton wiped out an 11-point deficit in the final four minutes.

Melton and Buenafe rifled back-to-back triples that knotted the scores at 136 with 19.5 seconds to go.

Team Greats’ Willie Miller then flubbed his attempt off Cardona. Cliff Hodge tried to tip in the ball before regulation. The attempt, however, went short and ended the game in a tie.

Former PBA stars Noli Locsin, Topex Robinson, Richard del Rosario, Franz Pumaren, Freddie Abuda, Johnedel Cardel and Dickie Bachmann also participated in the game.
