MANILA, Philippines – Senatorial candidate Jack Enrile is urging parents to enroll their children into sports programs this summer, saying it will help the young Filipino athletes learn values while also promoting grassroots development in Philippine sports.

“As a parent myself, I want summer vacation to be fun-filled and meaningful for our children by giving them the option to attend sports camps, like those for basketball, swimming, football and badminton,” the UNA senatorial candidate said in a statement.

“Sports help our children learn the value of hard-work and goal-setting, as competitions can bring out the very best in them,” Enrile added.

Moreover, getting children involved in sports increases the country’s pool of potential athletes who may one day compete in international sporting events, Enrile said.

“We must develop sports at the grassroots level, in schools and in sports clubs, because an active citizenry is a healthy and happy citizenry,” Enrile said.

“Here, local government units can do a lot by sponsoring summer sports fests or sending teams to national competitions,” he added.

Enrile also noted that arts and music lessons are “worthwhile activities” that Filipino children can participate in during the summer.
