Pingris tows B-Meg past Meralco

MANILA, Philippines – Marc Pingris led B-Meg Derby Ace past Meralco, 95-85, on Wednesday to forge a rubber match against the Bolts in their best-of-three quarterfinals duel in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The versatile forward-center scored a team-high 21 points to help the Llamados force a deciding Game 3 against the Bolts.

“He just has great character to play that hard, to play that well. He was a big presence in all facets of the game. We found a role for him, something he could hang on and do and he played it to the hilt," B-Meg coach Tim Cone said on PBA.ph.

After successfully taking Macmac Cardona out early in the game, B-Meg was able to post a 26-point advantage over Meralco at the half, 52-29.

But Meralco import Earl Baron poured in 17 of his 39 points in the third period to chop down B-Meg’s lead to 76-68.

Chris Ross' layup 70 seconds remaining in the fourth brought the Bolts within 6 points, 91-85.

But the Llamados were able to hold on to their lead by rendering Meralco scoreless in the final seconds.

Denzel Bowles scored 20 points for B-Meg, while June Simon and Josh Urbiztondo added 15 and 13, respectively.

Apart from Baron, Solomon Mercado was the only Bolt to score double figures (18 points).

Meralco missed the services of Cardona, who was thrown out just 70 seconds into the game for slapping Bowles.
