WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley thanked Juan Manuel Marquez for knocking out Manny Pacquiao, saying the Mexican’s decisive victory over the Filipino has relieved him of the pressure when he defends his welterweight title.

The American said in HBO 24/7 that he was shocked when he saw the Mexican topple the Filipino superstar.

“I was blown away just like everybody else,” Bradley said.

Prior to Pacquiao’s knockout loss, Bradley defeated the Filipino by split decision. The verdict was seen as a controversial one as most boxing pundits believe the American didn't earn the victory.

It was only over a year later that Bradley was granted a rematch with Pacquiao.

Bradley felt that Marquez’s knockout win has somewhat done him a favor.

“That can happen to anybody, it's boxing. But at that time, I was happy too,” he said. “I was happy 'cause now the pressure's off from my back. The pressure is on his (Pacquiao) back.”

Furthermore, Bradley also defeated Marquez via split decision in 2013.

If he wins against Pacquiao on April 12, he might face Marquez again. But first the Mexican is due for a May 17 bout against Mike Alvarado.
