MANILA, Philippines – Alaska is aiming to extend its win streak to 3 games when it meets Barako Bull in the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Wednesday.
Aces coach Luigi Trillo said they cannot afford to underestimate the Energy Colas despite their record of 2 wins and 4 defeats.
He said the record does not reflect Barako's performance on the hard court.
“Barako's record is not a reflection of how good they are playing," Trillo said in the PBA website. “They always play hard and until the end."
The Alaska coach said that aside from having a good import, the Energy Colas have able locals who are capable of scoring at will.
“[Josh] Dollard seems like he is the best scorer out there. Willie Miller is a hard match-up. They also have a lot of guys who can explode like [Mick] Pennisi, [Ronjay] Buenafe and [JC] Intal,” said Trillo.
Barako coach Bong Ramos, for his part, said they need a win to boost their chances of making the cut after the 9-game eliminations.
“We have to continue playing tough and keep the game close. Every game is crucial and we really need to win,” said Ramos.
The Barako coach added that Alaska is steadily improving as the conference goes on, which is why his boys will need to mix it up against the Aces.
“Them being the defending champion we have to step up and keep our focus,” said Ramos.
Game time will be at 5:45 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
