MANILA, Philippines – Reigning PBA Most Valuable Player Mark Caguioa and former two-time MVP James Yap will lead the charge of the PBA All-Stars against the Gilas Pilipinas National Team in the 2013 PBA All-Star Weekend in May in Digos, Davao del Sur.
Caguioa and Yap will be part of the PBA All-Stars’ starting five, along with Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva, Barangay Ginebra rookie Chris Ellis, and Petron’s double-double machine Arwind Santos.
The first five of the PBA All-Star selection were determined by fan voting.
Meanwhile, PBA coaches chose the following players to come off the bench for the All-Star squad: KG Canaleta (Air21), Alex Cabagnot (Petron), Jay Washington (Petron), Cyrus Baguio (Alaska), JV Casio (Alaska), Marcio Lassiter (Petron) and Beau Belga (Rain or Shine).
Alaska coach Luigi Trillo will serve as head coach of the PBA All-Stars.
They will go against the Gilas Pilipinas national team coached by former Talk 'N Text mentor Chot Reyes and bannered by naturalized player Marcus Douthit.
Also seeing action for the national team are: Jimmy Alapag, Kelly Williams, Ranidel de Ocampo, Jayson Castro, Jarred Dillinger, Larry Fonacier and Ryan Reyes (Talk 'N Text); Jeff Chan and Gabe Norwood (Rain or Shine); LA Tenorio (Ginebra); JunMar Fajardo (Petron); Marc Pingris (San Mig Coffee); Gary David and Japeth Aguilar (GlobalPOrt); Sonny Thoss (Alaska); and cadet player Greg Slaughter.
Yap will be making his 10th appearance in the PBA All-Star Game, joining Dindo Pumaren and Vergel Meneses as the only players who have played in the All-Star Game 10 times.
Caguioa, Santos, and Baguio are all making their sixth appearances in the All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game will be played on May 5, but other activities will be held throughout the week, including a Legends game pitting a PBA Stalwarts team against a PBA Greats team.
