MANILA, Philippines – Taiwanese cue artist Chang Yu Long defeated Ronato Alcano of the Philippines to bag the top prize in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face-Off series last Saturday at the Airport Pagcor Casino in Parañaque City.
Chang won two straight racks to edge Alcano, 9-7 in the race-to-9 event.
The win was worth $5,000 for Chang, while Alcano settled for the $2,500 runner-up prize.
Chang built a 5-2 lead by winning three straight racks before Alcano rallied to cut the lead to 4-5. But Chang once again took a big lead, winning two of the next three racks to go ahead 7-5.
Although Alcano managed to tie the match at 7-all, Chang would win the final two racks to take the victory.
With Chang’s victory, Team Asia took a 4-3 lead in the series dubbed Philippines vs Asia.
Last March 24, Filipino cue artist Francisco “Django” Bustamante had tied the series after defeating Yang Ching-shun of Taiwan, 9-3.
The PBB Face Off series resumes with a match pitting Liu Hai Tao of China against Alex Pagulayan on April 14, and then against Dennis Orcollo on April 21. Fong Pang Chao of Chinese Taipei will battle Lee Vann Corteza on April 28. By Marlon Bernardino
