MANILA, Philippines – Wayne Chism will make his debut for Rain or Shine when the Elasto Painters take on the lackluster GlobalPort Batang Pier in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Monday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

Chism is replacing Alexander McLean, who helped Rain or Shine build a 2-3 record. But the Elasto Painters are languishing at the bottom half of the standings and need to win at least three of their last four games to fan their playoff hopes.

“Our new import has made good progress in our last two practices,” Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao said on PBA.ph. “I’m confident he can make significant contribution to our campaign from here on.”

The 6-foot-8 Chism is expected to provide Rain or Shine with low post presence, although Guiao is quick to remind his local players to step up as well.

“Our locals will also have to step up and not rely too much on our import,” he said.

“Consistency of our defense has been a factor in our struggles, and we are hoping Chism can also give us a lift in this department,” the coach added.

According to PBA.ph, Rain or Shine gave up an average of 97.75 points in their first four assignments before finally notching their second win by holding Meralco to 79 points last week.

GlobalPort, meanwhile, remains at the bottom of the league standings with a 0-6 record, and will need to win its last three games just to get a shot at a playoff spot.

Game time is at 5:45 p.m.
