Cavaliers upset Pacers to boost playoff hopes

Dion Waiters had a game-high 19 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers upset Indiana to improve their playoff chances and damage the Pacers' hold on the East's top spot.

The Cavs (30-45) pulled within 2-1/2 games of the Atlanta Hawks (31-41) in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Forward Paul George had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Pacers (52-22) who have lost five of their last seven games as their lead over Miami has been trimmed to one game.

Cleveland again played without Kyrie Irving, who has missed the last eight games with a biceps injury.

Nets 114, Timberwolves 99

The Brooklyn Nets moved a step closer to clinching a playoff berth with Paul Pierce scoring 22 points and guard Joe Johnson 19 points in their victory over the Timberwolves.

Kevin Martin and Corey Brewer had 21 points each for Minnesota.
