MANILA, Philippines – Former members of Smart Gilas-Pilipinas and key players of B-Meg Derby Ace make up the starting lineup of the Rookies/Sophomores/Juniors (RSJ) and Veterans teams, respectively, for the annual PBA All-Star game in Laoag City this coming May.
According to PBA.ph, Powerade rookie JV Casio heads the RSJ starting five with former Gilas teammates Marcio Lassiter (Powerade), Chris Lutz (Petron), and Dylan Ababou (Ginebra).
Josh Urbiztondo (B-Meg) is the only non-Gilas member to join RSJ’s starting unit.
Meanwhile, B-Meg members Marc Pingris, James Yap and JC Intal will start for the Veterans team. Joining them are Petron’s Arwind Santos and Mark Caguioa of Barangay Ginebra.
Casio topped the fan votes with a total of 45,038, followed by Lassiter with 43,067 and Santos with 42,996.
Lutz (42,757) and Pingris (41,192) complete the five players who received the most number of votes shortly after the poll ended last March 28.
Ababou received 38,621 votes to form the RSJ starting five along with Lassiter and Lutz, while Urbiztondo got 39,963 to edge Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee (39,777).
Yap (37,893) and Caguioa (29,157) will be manning the backcourt for the Veterans, while Santos, Pingris, and Intal (29,503) make up the team’s frontline.
Talk N’ Text’s Chot Reyes will coach the Veterans, while Powerade’s Bo Perasol will call the shots for RSJ.
Reyes and Perasol, along with the remaining PBA will select the reserves for the two All-Star squads.
This year’s PBA All-Star, which runs from May 10 to 13, will be hosted by the City of Laoag.
