MANILA, Philippines – Alaska capped a furious fourth quarter run with an 89-78 win over San Miguel Beer during their out-of-town game in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday.
The Aces whacked the Beermen with 13 straight points in the last five minutes, dealing San Miguel’s second loss in seven games at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
After a slow opening quarter, Alaska stepped up its game for a 37-32 halftime lead against San Miguel.
The Beermen through the efforts of Arwind Santos, Kelvin Jones and June Mar Fajardo seized an eight point lead midway the third, 50-42.
Alaska fought back to knot the scores 62-all going into the payoff period.
Rob Dozier, Jvee Casio and Cyrus Baguio took over the scoring chores as the Aces pounced on the Beermen’s meltdown in the fourth quarter.
Dozier had a double-double of 20 points and 20 rebounds for Alaska, which improved to 3-3. It is now tied with Air21 at fourth.
The Beermen, meanwhile, remained at third with a 5-2 card.
