MANILA, Philippines – After winning the WBO junior flyweight crown five months ago, two-division champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will make his first title defense in Manila this coming May.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said they are choosing between three possible venues for the Nietes fight.
Among the locations being considered are Ynares Sports Arena, Cuneta Astrodome and Resorts World.
“We are working on who his opponent would be but we still need the approval of the WBO,” Aldeguer told Sun Star. “Donnie’s opponent should be at the top 15.”
Nietes won the WBO junior flyweight crown by beating Mexico’s Ramon Garcia-Hilares on October 8 last year.
Aldeguer said local boxing stars Milan Melindo and Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista may be included in Nietes’ fight card.
