MANILA – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Board of Governors will discuss the various options available to the league as it seeks to further help the national basketball team prepare for the FIBA World Cup.
According to the league website, the Board is meeting today in Quezon City, with one of the ideas being that Gilas can participate in the season-ending Governors Cup as an 11th PBA team.
Another option, proposed by San Miguel Corp. official Robert Non, is to hold a pocket tournament involving Gilas after the PBA season includes.
PBA.ph reported that another group would like to shorten the third conference even further to give Gilas more time to prepare for the tournament.
“It would still be a long process. Some governors would still report it to their principals. We would need probably one more meeting to make a decision on that,” one governor told the league website.
Gilas Pilipinas will compete in the FIBA World Cup from late August to September.
Also to be discussed in the board meeting are the PBA membership applications of KIA, Blackwater and NLEX.
