MANILA – Filipino light-flyweight Johnriel Casimero will make the fourth defense of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) title on May 3 against a Colombian opponent at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
Ronnie Nathanielsz of PhilBoxing reported that the 24-year-old Casimero will be defending his belt against Mauricio Fuentes.
“Everything is in place, and I have already got the tickets of Fuentes, who will arrive on April 30 with his trainer, Alvinio Martinez,” Nathanielsz quoted promoter Sammy Gello-ani as saying.
Casimero won the IBF belt in a memorable bout in Argentina against Luis Alberto Lazarte, which saw the Argentine’s supporters riot after Casimero won via a 10th round technical knockout.
In his first title defense, he edged Pedro Guevara via a split decision, then beat Luis Alberto Rios via a unanimous decision in March 2013.
Most recently, he dominated Felipe Salguero in another title defense in October 2013 at the Makati Coliseum.
