Manny Pacquiao’s boxing trainer, Freddie Roach, expects Timothy Bradley to stick to the same strategy that he used against Juan Manuel Marquez.
The undefeated American outpointed Pacquiao’s tormentor last October to retain the WBO welterweight crown via split decision.
“Since he had success boxing in his last fight, usually that carries over into the next fight,” explained Roach in an interview with On The Ropes Boxing Radio. “Against Marquez he boxed very well and I feel he’s gonna try to out box us.”
Roach said this is why they have been pitting Pacquiao against sparring partners with awkward fighting styles.
But at the same time, the boxing trainer is also testing the Filipino boxer against sparring partners who like to go toe-to-toe just to make sure that everything’s covered.
“Well you know, we got guys that are running a little bit, boxing, and we got guys that are coming to us because Bradley does like to exchange at times,” said Roach.
Roach said he wants Pacquiao to force Bradley into a corner. This, he said, will force the American boxer to fight back, which could provide more openings for the Filipino’s line of attack.
“When he gets hit, he does like to fight back and that’s what we’re using the guys like Lydell [Rhodes] for their punching power and so forth,” he said.
“We’ve got five different sparring partners with five different styles and they all do what Bradley does and he will be one hundred percent ready by fight time.”
