Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo suffered the first loss of his career after getting knocked out by Mexican challenger Francisco Rodriguez in the 10th round of their minimumweight title showdown in Monterrey, Mexico.
Sabillo was knocked down twice in the opening round and was battered by his Mexican foe the rest of the way.
The bout was eventually stopped at the 1:50 mark of the 10th, as Sabillo was no longer able to answer Rodriguez’s assault and was pinned against the ropes.
With the loss, Sabillo relinquished his World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight belt to the 20-year-old Rodriguez.
Sabillo now has a record of 23 wins with one loss and one draw, with 12 wins coming by knockout.
